When you Digitize your photos, negatives and slides you are preserving your memories.  Digital images are easier to store, share and replicate.  You can pack your originals away in acid free archival boxes to (safely store) .   I suggest you get  2 copies of your digitized images. This allows you to put one away for safekeeping and use the other for all your editing and sharing.

I treat your images with white glove respect.

Photos

I will digitize your loose photo as a TIFF (.tif) using a lossless format. This is the best format for archival storage.  It enables the image to be edited and re-saved without losing image quality.  You can easily re-save the TIFF as a JPEG for online photos or sharing with friends and family.

A few of the Programs that will open a TIFF
               Microsoft Photos
               Microsoft Paint
               Adobe Photoshop, Elements and Illustrator
               ACDSee Photo Studio
               Apple Preview
               CorelDraw
               MacPhun ColorStrokes
               Google Drive
               File Viewer for Android

If there is writing on the back of the photos I can either do a second image with the same name as the front (1002_front.tiff  and 1002_back.tiff) or I can add the information as Metadata. Metadata is a way to keep information WITH the image.

By default, your digitized images will have a numeric number as a name (1259.TIFF) and be organized in the order I receive them. You can easily rename and save these images.  IF you would like your images in specific groups please sort into different envelopes and add the name of the file/group you would like me to create.

               Examples

An envelope labeled “Bob’s birthday in France 1985”  will create a folder called Bob_birthday_France_1985 and the photos will be added with their numeric number.

If you have questions regarding grouping or naming please contact me dya@genealogydames.com

 Slides

Slides will be digitized as images. I will auto rotate and reverse the image if necessary. This gives you a high-quality image of your slides without the need for a projector.  You will be able to edit and share the same as any other digital image.

Loose Slides will be digitized and have a numeric number as a name. They will be organized in the order I receive them. IF you would like your images in specific groups please sort into different envelopes and add the name of the file/group you would like me to create.

Slides in carousels will be digitized using the order they have been placed in the carousel.  The slides will be replaced in the same order as found after digitizing. IF you would like your images in specific groups please sort into different envelopes and add the name of the file/group you would like me to create

Slides in sheets will be digitized using the order they have been placed in the sheet protector.   The slides will be replaced in the same order as found after digitizing. IF you would like your images in specific groups please sort into different envelopes and add the name of the file/group you would like me to create

 Negatives

Negative will be digitized as images. I will auto rotate and reverse the image if necessary. This gives you a high-quality image of your negative as an individual photo. You will be able to edit and share the same as any other digital image.

Photo Albums

Photo albums, especially the one with self-stick pages, can be a challenge to digitize.  Often it’s next to impossible to remove the photos with doing damage.

I cannot remove photos from an album page and I cannot disassemble your album.  I ask that you separate the page and leave the photos attached.  I can digitize the page and create individual images from the photos.  This will be in a folder names for each Photo Album (please supply album name)

IF you wish to remove the photos there are several websites that can help.  Below are just a few.
